Biography |
LL.B. The University of Tokyo 1988; LL.M. (Comparative Law) Southern Methodist University 1995. Admitted to the Japanese Bar in 1990 and to the Bar of the State of New York in 1996. Futoshi Toyama, while practicing law at his private law firm in Tokyo mainly in the areas of civil litigation, corporate and copyright for almost eighteen years, has been greatly involved in legal aid activities in Japan. He was appointed as a council member of the Saitama branch of the Japan Legal Aid Association (JLAA) in 1996 and served also as the Secretary-General to that office (1998-1999). He worked for the Tokyo branch of the JLAA as a part-time staff attorney (1999-2001). He has been involved in the judicial assistance project to the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia since 2001 as Chief of its Legal Clinic Advisory Team in order to enhance the legal aid system in Cambodia. Among several international symposiums where he was invited as a speaker, he spoke at the 2005 International Forum on Legal Aid held here in Taiwan. After the inauguration of Japan Legal Support Center, he served as the Director of its Civil Legal Aid Division for more than two years. Currently he is serving as the Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs of Japan Federation of Bar Associations. |
